If so you can help do something about it
Join the Big Plastic Count 2026 – Monday March 9th to Sunday March 16th
Take part in a week long survey of plastic packaging waste as part of lobbying to reduce it.
What do I do?
It is simple – download a sheet (the PDF is below) and record how much single-use plastic you get during the week. Record all the different types of plastic you get. Use your instinct about what to count and where to record it. If you are unsure Search Big Plastic Count Plastic ID
Then at the end of the week add up the totals and submit your results on the website (there are details on the recording sheet).
What aren’t we counting?
Plastic which is essential for medical purposes etc. so don’t count things like plastic straws or medication blister packs. And don’t
include plasters, dog poo bags, plastic cutlery or mixed plastics like milk/juice cartons (TetraPak), Pringles tubes & coffee cups.
What if I can’t do a week?
Count 7 days if you can but your data is important – show how many days you counted when you submit your results. (and don’t worry if you miss the odd item).
What should I do with my plastic afterwards?
Dispose of your plastic waste in the same way you would normally – reuse what you can, recycle what you can and throw away the rest.
How do I submit my results?
Please scan the QR code at the bottom of your Count Sheet or search Big Plastic Count Submission Page
Submit your results between 15th and 22nd March
