The first Methodist meeting in Hucclecote was in 1838, in a cottage opposite what is now Porchester Road. The first chapel was built about 10 years later just opposite (part of the small burial ground which is still on Hucclecote Road). It continued to be used for worship for 80 years. The first Sunday School also met in a half-timbered cottage which has long sonce been demolished at the entrance to Chosen Way.

The Thomas Gaze Memorial Hall on Hucclecote Road, (sometimes known as the Pop-In), opened in 1889. It was the home of the Sunday School for nearly 80 years until the current Church Hall opened on Carisbrooke Road in 1963.

On 21st May 1929, a ceremonial stone-laying took place, at the present building in Carisbrooke Road. The church actually opened in November 1929. You can read a more detailed account of the history of the church elsewhere on this website.

This brief history lesson is because Sunday November 5th is our Church Anniversary service. Our service at 10.30am will be led by Rev Carrie Seaton.

Since 1838 God's people called Methodists have been active here in Hucclecote. On Sunday we will be giving thanks for all that history, as well as trusting God to lead us into the future. We'd love to see you at a service or one of our other events.
