140 years young

The Boys' Brigade is 140 years old. The first group (known as a Company) originally met on October 4th 1883. Since then it has grown into a worldwide movement.

We were delighted to hold their enrolment service in church last Sunday, October 1st. The officers, helpers, young leaders and members made their annual membership promises. The congregation also promised to play their part in supporting the company.

The service actually started with the great news that one of the regular jumble sales to support their work, held the day before on September 30th raised over £700.

Hucclecote Methodist Church is proud to be the home of the 5th Gloucester Boys Brigade and Girls Association who have been preparing to celebrate this important anniversary for a number of weeks.

Anchors and Juniors, (the two youngest sections of the company), buried two time capsules in the church garden which were blessed by our Minister Barry. The contents will remain a secret, but they do contain a letter from the children to their future selves... exciting! The plan is to dig them up again in ten years' time to celebrate the 150th year Anniversary! You can see some pictures on their Facebook page.
