Welcome Cafe

The number of visitors to the cafe is beginning to increase. This may be due to the new professionally produced banner on the fence by the main road and to publicity on various social media sites. All feedback has been positive.

The steering group meet regularly for updates and future planning, ironing out quickly any issues that may crop up.

Review of opening times has taken place and it was decided to finish with Wednesday afternoon opening and move to the morning instead. This has been booked now as there aren’t any clashes with other groups. Cafe will open on Wednesdays 10.00am – noon: Thursdays 10am – noon: Mondays 5.30pm -8.00pm. Saturday mornings have been particularly successful and we now open on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the Month 10.00am – noon.

Once a month a representative comes on a Wednesday morning from Age Concern to answer questions and solve difficulties with IT problems.

From April 6th a monthly Buggy Walk, organised by a local new mum, will start and finish in The Welcome Cafe.

We continue in our efforts to be sustainable, eco friendly and use fairly traded products. There are notices publicising these values.

Our list of volunteers is slowly expanding but we would appreciate more to cover holidays and absences. Our cake makers continue to generously provide home baking, much appreciated by the visitors. A huge thank you must go to all our volunteers and bakers. You are very valued!

It is suggested that we offer opportunities for volunteer work experience to youngsters, initially from Brigades and Junior Church, at the cafe.

We aim to apply for a grant from the government, “Build Back Better” fund to enable us to expand on a more professional level, offering more opportunities for local people to socialise in a safe, listening, caring and welcoming space. Among the list of requirements is wipeable flooring in The Welcome which we would like the appropriate church body to approve.

We await the result of our application to Gloucester City Council for a grant towards local advertising.

The government grant application requires a constitution or mission statement. The Welcome Cafe Mission Statement is included below.

The cafe is proving to become more popular with the local community as time, better weather and advertising takes effect. Footfall during all opening times is increasing.
